Record Prices for NBA Stars’ Memorabilia

Anthony Edwards and Victor Wembanyama stole the spotlight at the recent Goldin Auctions April Elite sale, where their memorabilia fetched eye-watering prices. The basketball fever was at its peak as enthusiasts scrambled to get their hands on pieces related to these rising NBA stars.

One of the highlights of the auction was an early NBA jersey worn by Anthony Edwards during his fourth career game, commanding an astonishing $118,978. This sale not only set a record for any Edwards jersey publicly sold but also added further prestige to the jersey’s legacy, having been worn during a game where Edwards showcased his skills with his first career block and an impressive 12 points. Edwards’ talent shone brightly during the 2024 playoffs, where he etched his name alongside legends like Kobe Bryant by becoming one of the youngest players to score over 40 points in consecutive postseason games.

Another hot item was Edwards’ 2020-21 Panini National Treasures Rookie Patch Autograph card, graded BGS GEM MINT 9.5 with a perfect Beckett 10 for autographs, snatched up for a hefty $85,550, showing the demand for his memorabilia continues to surge.

Not to be outdone, Victor Wembanyama also had a moment in the limelight, especially with his rookie cards flying off the auction block. A 2023-24 Panini Prizm Green Shimmer First Off The Line rookie card, numbered 1 of 5 and graded PSA 10, commanded an impressive $113,460. Another rare find was the Gold Shimmer rookie card numbered 7/10, which fetched a substantial $49,410.

The auction showcased a blend of modern sensations and timeless icons. A 1996-97 Kobe Bryant Topps Chrome Refractor rookie card raked in $92,720, highlighting the enduring appeal of the late NBA legend’s memorabilia. Additionally, a 2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Gold Power Prizm Kylian Mbappe rookie card, graded BGS MINT 9, secured a remarkable $92,190.

Delving into college basketball, former Duke star Cherokee Parks made his mark as well, with his 1994 Championship ring clinching $44,320 in bids. The auction also featured captivating photographs capturing iconic moments from the early careers of Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, fetching $15,982 and $14,640 correspondingly.

Fernando Tatis Jr.’s MLB journey was not left untold, with a jersey from his early days making a mark at the auction by commemorating his first career road game, selling for $10,098. The diverse array of sports collectibles showcased at the auction underlines the enduring allure and widespread interest in memorabilia across generations and sporting disciplines.

The fervor surrounding Anthony Edwards, Victor Wembanyama, and other sporting luminaries’ memorabilia at the Goldin Auctions highlights the ever-growing passion for collecting iconic pieces that encapsulate sporting history and excellence.
