PWCC Sets New Record with Michael Jordan Card Sale

PWCC Marketplace’s November Premier Auction continues to make waves in the collectibles market, as another Michael Jordan card sets a new record. The coveted 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies edition featuring the basketball legend was sold for an astonishing $216,000, establishing a new benchmark for this particular /50 parallel card. It now claims the title of the second most expensive Star Rubies card ever sold.

The 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies card series holds a special place in the hearts of collectors as it was the last Skybox set to showcase Michael Jordan before his retirement in 1998. This final glimpse of Jordan in his prime has made cards from this set exceptionally valuable. Adorned with intricate foil details and an edge-to-edge design, these cards are not only cherished for their scarcity but also for their beauty. However, their delicate construction also contributes to their rarity, as they are prone to wear.

The record-breaking Jordan card, which received a PSA 7 grade, is one of just four cards of its kind to attain this grade. With only five other cards graded higher, this particular card is truly a rarity. The combination of Jordan’s iconic status and the card’s limited availability has fueled its demand among collectors, driving up its price and solidifying its place in basketball card history.

The auction also saw remarkable results for other collectibles. Despite its less-than-perfect condition, a PSA 1 (MC) graded 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 card sold for an impressive $35,400. This iconic baseball card, featuring one of the sport’s greatest legends, remains a highly sought-after piece in the hobby, continuing to capture the imagination of collectors.

In addition to the Michael Jordan card sale, PWCC witnessed record-breaking prices for other basketball-related items. A Kobe Bryant 1999 Upper Deck Game Jerseys patch autograph card fetched an impressive $32,700, highlighting the enduring popularity of the late NBA superstar. The unique combination of a patch from one of Bryant’s game-worn jerseys with his autograph elevated the value of this collectible, making it highly desirable among fans and collectors alike.

The auction also featured a 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 card showcasing Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, which achieved a remarkable price of $20,400. The emergence of Formula 1 as a popular sport among collectors has driven up the demand for cards featuring top drivers like Hamilton and Bottas. As the sport continues to captivate audiences worldwide, the value of these cards is expected to rise, making them attractive investments for collectors.

PWCC Marketplace’s November Premier Auction has once again demonstrated the enduring popularity and value of collectible cards. From the record-breaking sale of the Michael Jordan card to the impressive prices achieved for other sports-related items, this auction has showcased the passion and enthusiasm that collectors bring to the hobby. As the market continues to evolve, collectors can look forward to new opportunities to acquire rare and valuable pieces that celebrate their favorite athletes and sports.
