Record-breaking Auction: Jordan Rookie Card & Kelce Super Bowl Jersey Shine

The world of sports memorabilia and trading cards has been ablaze with excitement as Goldin’s August Elite Auction showcased some truly remarkable items fetching jaw-dropping prices. Leading the pack was the sale of a PSA 8 1984-85 Star Company Michael Jordan rookie card, which set a new record for its grade after commanding an impressive $244,000 from eager bidders.

Hot on the heels of this sale was another Jordan rookie card, this time graded PSA 7, which found a new home for $62,000 on eBay, further solidifying the growing momentum in the market for Jordan’s iconic first NBA licensed trading card. Not to be outdone, a PSA 6.5 version of the same card also fetched a significant sum of $52,460, proving the enduring appeal of the basketball legend.

One of the standout pieces from the auction was a one-of-a-kind 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor Autograph card featuring MLB sensation Mike Trout. Graded PSA 9, this unique card garnered an impressive $192,030 despite Trout facing challenges with injuries in recent years.

Baseball fans also witnessed new records being set for modern players with the sale of a 2011 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Bryce Harper card (#5/5), graded PSA 9, fetching an astounding $184,720. Additionally, a 2014 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Mookie Betts card (#3/5), graded PSA 10, commanded a notable $123,220, proving the fervent interest in these rising stars.

The auction also saw some unprecedented prices for 1-of-1 SuperFractor cards, including the 2024 Topps Chrome Autographed SuperFractor Elly De La Cruz PSA 10, which sold for $116,534. Similarly, a Jackson Holliday SuperFractor PSA 10 fetched $68,527, setting new benchmarks for these players in the collecting world.

A unique dual autograph Ronaldo/Messi SuperFractor from the 2023-24 Topps UEFA collection also turned heads, selling for $67,100 with a PSA 9 grade. The card, originally pulled in England and consigned to Goldin during the London Card Show, showcased the enduring popularity of these football icons.

Shifting focus to memorabilia, Travis Kelce’s Super Bowl LV jersey from the Kansas City Chiefs’ showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stole the show, selling for an impressive $52,460. An additional highlight was Kelce’s AFC Championship ring from the same season, fetching a respectable $34,404 and adding to the excitement surrounding the star player.

Other noteworthy memorabilia sales included an Aaron Judge 2017 rookie season jersey, matched to one of his record-setting 52 home runs, which commanded $51,240 from eager collectors.

Rounding out the top sales were items like the 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes RPA (#77/99) going for $95,770, the 2018 Bowman Orange Refractor Shohei Ohtani (#22/75) graded PSA 9 fetching $74,450, a 1996 Mariano Rivera game-used jersey linked to eight trading cards selling for $51,240, and 1969 Topps Football Series 1 and Series 2 wax boxes selling for $32,940 and $31,721, respectively.
