Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals Shorts Up for Auction

Michael Jordan, the basketball legend known as “His Airness,” is set to make waves in the world of sports memorabilia once again. This time, it’s not a pair of sneakers or a jersey, but the iconic white Chicago Bulls shorts he wore during the 1998 NBA Finals, his final season with the Bulls.

The 1998 NBA Finals marked the culmination of Jordan’s illustrious career with the Bulls, where he led the team to their sixth championship title since 1991. These historic home white shorts, worn by Jordan during Games 3, 4, and 5 at the United Center in Chicago, hold a special place in basketball history.

Expected to fetch a hefty sum at SCP Auctions’ Fall Premier Auction, these shorts are photo-matched to the three games in Chicago by both MeiGray and Sports Investors. Jordan’s impressive performances in those games, scoring 24, 34, and 28 points, respectively, contributed to the Bulls’ victories in Games 3 and 4 before their ultimate win in Game 6 in Utah.

With bidding opening on November 6 and closing on November 23, these historic shorts are estimated to reach a staggering $500,000, setting a potential record for game-worn basketball shorts. Jordan’s memorabilia has a track record of commanding high prices, as evidenced by a game-worn jersey from the same Finals selling for $10 million in 2022 and a collection of sneakers from the Finals fetching $8 million earlier this year.

As a key artifact from Jordan’s final season with the Bulls, these shorts are not just a piece of clothing but a symbol of his legendary career and the historic moments he created on the court. Collectors and fans alike are expected to flock to the auction, eager to own a piece of basketball history and to continue celebrating the enduring legacy of Michael Jordan and his unparalleled achievements in the NBA.
